This is so symbolic of the tragic dark side of our civilised world! Some simply do not keep within the "comfortable formula" through no fault of their own! A sad but beautiful photo!
This is real life alright, and sadly a timeless image. That said, you've captured it at face value without any sense of manipulating human misfortune to make a provocative photo. It speaks for itself. We are simply there, as you were, to witness and not judge.
We are just very fortunate to take pictures of them and not beeing them. We have seen a lot of people at Manhattan sleeping on the pavement and begging. This is our reality. Taking pictures of it, remains me to be thankful for a good life. The picture is good, captures the sadness clearly.
This is the true power of photography; to capture a slice of life in the immediate moment. A confrontation that sometimes hits you in the face with cold, hard truth. And then these images can be seen in a historical context as well and we realize that as a society, we must find a way to do better, somehow. It would be so awesome to see all your black and white street photography in a book. What stories that book would tell...
This is awesome James! Yes sad, but realistic too. It almost appears timeless as from another time. I can picture this man from the 20's or somewhere close to that.

Not many miles, but a world apart from Newport Beach...
Great pic James!
There is far more of this than any of us want to see, but it can't be ignored, either. Terrific capture as always, James!

Unfortunately it's a common scene around here...
Eveybody should have the same opportunities in life.
Good street shot James! ;-)
oh my, that is an exquisite shot!
so sad though...
This is really captured good in black and white.
Greetings,

It's very sad.
Sadly you see pretty much of this everywhere.
Terrific shot!
Wow. I didn't know you are were alive in 1932. Chilling.

This is an excellent shot and a reality in our world.
A very sad and touching shot, well done!
A different world from Balboa Island! A powerful image of the plight one man in this world.
Very sad photo; but you captured the reality...
there is the beauty and the melancholic... both touch a chord in the heart. Nicely captured!
Great photograph!
Special black and white! Loved!
Hugs.

This picture looks like real life to me. Unfortunately. It is a great photo with a sad theme.
In rich places, like french riviera or California, the poors seem to be even poorer..A sad but beautyful shot..
It could be very far down too...
Shot to reflect on.
A powerful image of the other reality many people are living James.
A touching image...
God bless him!
And God bless you!

Sadly, this scene is very, very common here in the SF Bay area. Very moving image, James.
Wonderful street shot, and realistic..
this is something rarely seen in Sweden, even if it does exist. A great shot James.
That is a real picture, full of life. Life in its hardest face..
This shot could have been made by one of the FSA photographers in the 1930s.
Good shot of a touching subject, unfortunately it is a fact of life in so many cities today.
Fine street photography James. Black and white is the only medium for a subject like this. So moving.
This is good James, very good.
Wow! Powerful image. Excellent!
Such an honest and moving photograph.
Moving shot, James. He needs to be at an Occupy Wall Street demonstration. ;-)

Heart tugging. It hurts. I see the future.
